The Church's 5 Purposes

Holy Cross is dedicated to fulfilling God's purposes for His church. The five purposes of the church are based on our Bastismal Covenant.

Christian Education - Jean Gillette

Continue in the Apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers
  • Bible Study -
  • Children's Ministry -
  • Sunday School - Sue Baas
  • Women's Faith Book Group - Edie Luoma
Bible Study - adult reading, lectures and discussions of God's Word as written in the Bible.

Children's Ministry and Sunday School - for kids pre-K to 6th grade: Sunday school, childcare, special cultural and recreational events

Women's Faith Club Book Group - fellowship, reading, and discussion of various books designed to examine spiritually themed literature

Spiritual Development - Judy Cater

Resist evil, and whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord

  • Chalice Bearers, Readers - Jack Cater
  • Flower Guild - Louise Saunders
  • Lay Eucharistic Visitors - Judy Cater, Maureen Hopson
  • Ushers - Larry Sebastian
  • Music - Tom Mauro
Acolytes, Chalice Bearers, Readers - assist the priest in celebrating and reading the lessons for the day

Altar Guild - set up the vestments, linens, and vessels needed for worship and take care of the clean-up afterwards

Flower Guild - create the floral arrangements for the church

Lay Eucharistic Visitors - assist Vicar in bringing communion to those who cannot attend church services

Ushers - attend to people's needs before during, and immediately following worship services

Music - choir and organist/pianist provide music for services

Proclaim by word and example the Good News of Jesus Christ

  • Welcome - Sue Sebastian
Greeters - engage people on their way to church, help newcomers in particular sign in and get name tags, assist them as needed. Make them feel welcome.

Incorporation - enables people really to become part of our community. Greeters are an important part of this team; small in-home groups will become an equally important part of this ministry; pastor's lunches and upcoming membership classes are other activities that will be important to this ministry .

Crossings - Holy Cross' newsletter: writers, editors, proofreaders, artists are welcome

Website - keeping our information current, looking for ways to improve and maintain a creative edge.

Welcome - providing a welcoming and reassuring call on recent visitors.

Servanthood - Sue Baas

Seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself
  • Bridge Group - Larry Sebastian
  • Fellowship - Maureen Hopson
  • Friendship Dinners - Betty Olson
  • Prayer Chain - Sue Baas
  • Intercessory Prayers - Betty Kucera
  • St. Martha's Guild - Larry Sebastian
Bridge Group - take turns hosting bridge games at one another's homes for fellowship and for the attraction of new members

Fellowship - getting together as members of God's family to serve others, equip others to serve, and fulfill our desire for self-expression in a Godly way.

Friendship Dinners - take turns in hosting dinners for small groups within the Holy Cross community so promote better understanding of each other withing the community Intercessory Prayers - prayer partners available for anyone with a special need they want to put before the Lord

Prayer Chain - at times of sudden need or crisis, word goes out for prayer and support among the congregation through the prayer chain

St. Martha's Guild - provides food-care packages and shopping for families with newborns and the homebound

Strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being

KISS - Kids In ShelterS -- volunteers gather contributions of baby food at local supermarkets one Saturday morning every other month to provide for infants.

Military Outreach Ministry - providing support to military families and the necessities, support, and advocacy to and for wounded service men and women who have returned home

Prison Ministry - providing material and prayer support to those in prison.

Seniors Ministry - providing information, support, and advocacy to and for the older members of our community
